It’s true that a structure left to itself degrades with an impressive speed, but it is also true that 10 years of neglect are not enough to hide the true nature of an environment. Tough, aseptic, simple almost to madness, but not only, the idea of his imprisonment, which in this place, as in all former structures used to contain the mentally ill, have suffered from a very personal concept of “comfort”.
As in every place what makes a difference are the details, it is easy to notice the peeling walls or installations which are disheveled, the neglect is the natural end of each structure meant to be forgotten, but through the details you can, perhaps, understand a little better the environment in which the prisoners, in this case, moved.
A separate chapter is reserved to the windows, always a fascinating part for me, witch in this context acquires a special significance. Always the only opening for the confined to go to for a contact with the outside world. A contact that of course cannot and must not be made.
However, looking at these frames, all so very different form one another, fills you with a form of melancholic solitude.
Nets and grilles are the tents of these windows that do not prevent light from enter brutally in the environments, but preclude any possibility of moving out.
